The Product of Creative Frustration

Stache

So I have noticed lately the prevalence of the mustache, which will now be referred to only as a “stache,” amongst men in the security guard industry. Now, by my own observations it seems that outside of the security guard industry (and maybe the porn industry), the stache went out of favor in about 1985. So why do security guards insist on sporting the stache?

Some careful observation has lead me to the following theory:

Many men starting out in the security guard industry either weigh less than me or look about 12. In an effort to seem more dangerous / mature / imposing they grow a stache.

I don’t think its working. Frankly, a security guard who looks like a porn star from the 80s scares the crap out of me.

Above is Om Praksh Dogra, a security guard of a hotel in Amritsar, who has become popular for his 14.5 inch mustaches. Does his mustache make you scared of him?

His stache does not scare me, but his ascot does.

I think it goes into the parapsychology of wanting to be a cop, and the only cop they know is Dennis Franz (not a cop), thus the stache is part of the make up.

I’m glad you made this observation. I have security guards roaming my streets, and yes, they all look hideously out of place, complete with auction-bough cop cars, staches and wannabe uniforms. They go through a lot of trouble to get paid $10/hr maybe.
